War by country: America

America and her entry into WW2.

On the 7th of December 1941, The Imperial Japanese Navy and Air force attacked the US Pacific Fleet stationed on Oahu Island, Hawaii. This was considered to be one of the biggest military gambles in history and was the primary reason the US joined the 2nd World War. For more information on Why Japan attacked Pearl Harbour visit War by country : Japan.

Though before the 7th of December 1941, America was also partially involved in the European Theatre, she had been sending American troops to fight in that theatre due to the alliance she had with Great Britain. Though not entirely, Adolf Hitler declared war on the US on the 11th of December 1941, shortly after Franklin D Roosevelt had declared war on Japan due to the Axis alliance.

After the formal entry into the 2nd World War, America was rapidly industrialising and was quick to recover from the blow it had faced at Pearl Harbour. American troops took part in Operation Torch, the landings on the Coasts of North Africa,  The invasion of Sicily, Bombing raids over German industrial centres, the beaches of Iwo Jima and Okinawa in the Pacific, you name it, Americans had played a large part in all theatres and at the end had emerged successful along with the Allies.

After the 2nd World War, see aftermath for more detail, America was given a part in the West of Berlin and had occupied Japan for 8 years. America is also famously recognised for her Atomic Bomb, under the authorisation of the Manhattan Project, which was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

In all, approximately 407,000 American troops, Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, had died in the 2nd World War, all theatres combined.
